Getting Here

From the South or East:

  • Leave M6 @ junction 43 and take the first exit A69 road into Carlisle passing a Land Rover dealership on your left.
  • Go straight for about a mile and take the first right at some traffic lights soon after Carlisle United football ground (rhs) and just after "The Beehive" pub (lhs). The road is signed A595 West and is just after some carparking signs but the sign is easy to miss! Follow the road around a left hand bend and you will then pass Carlisle College on your right. You will shortly come to a T junction at a set of traffic lights and here you should turn right to go down a hill on a short stretch of dual carriage way. Get into the left hand lane as you approach the big roundabout.
  • At the roundabout (you will see DFS, a Wickes and a Shell Garage on your right) bear left which will take you on a dual carriage way passing the castle on your right and city centre on your left. Get into the right hand lane.
  • Keep straight through a set of traffic lights until you reach another roundabout which is adjacent to the McVities biscuit factory. Bear right along the B5307 at this roundabout. This is Newtown Road . Follow this road for about 5 miles passing through Moorhouse Village.
  • Approx ¾ mile after Moorhouse you will pass the Thurstonfield Village sign as you go around a right hand bend. Start indicating left as you go around this bend. We are the first drive you come to on the left, discreetly signed "The Lough", with white stones up the side. This is about 50 Metres before the 30 mph speed limit sign going into Thurstonfield village.
  • Go straight up the lane, ignoring the right hand fork and The Tranquil Otter Reception is the green lodge at the top of the lane, on the right hand side, by a wooden gate marked PRIVATE.

From the North:

  • Exit the M6 at junction 44 and follow the signs for Carlisle passing a Mcdonalds on you right then a Morrisons on your left.
  • Keep going until you reach a roundabout with the Sands Leisure Centre on your left and take the last exit.
  • Follow the dual carriage way. The castle will be on your right.

From here join the directions "from the South and East" at point 4.

From the West:

You will find us on B5307 on the Carlisle side of Thurstonfield Village. We are the last drive on the right as you leave the village and head for Carlisle.

By Train

If you are coming by train to Carlisle we will be happy to meet you from the station by prior arrangement. There is no charge for this service however a contribution for fuel would be appreciated.
