Thank you for a fantastic weekend away. Weather was perfect, hot tub amazing but the swan didn’t seem to like us!
Try clay pigeon shooting, a great day out, had takeaway from The Mango Tree – mixed reactions, we’ll definitely be back!

PS We loved the hot tub – stayed in it so long we went all wrinkly and shrivelled!

Had a fantastic, relaxing weekend
Had a fantastic, relaxing weekend. Beautiful view, weather was spot on so we had great use of the hot tub.
Enjoyed a run around the lake in the morning, where we spotted a baby deer and lots of other wild life.
We had the pleasure of meeting Dave every day and the swans with their cygnets and not to forget Leah the dog.
Couldn’t fault the place, can’t wait to come back.

We came here for a much needed break
We came here for a much needed break and we couldn’t have chosen better. Beautiful location, a great place for peace and quiet – so relaxing! The lodge is clean and cosy and very well equipped – you have thought of everything. Needless to say we all loved the hot tub. All in all a wonderful few days away – wish we could have stayed for longer. We hope to return for more tranquillity at the Otter.

Came here for a girls’ weekend full of relaxation and peacefulness
Came here for a girls’ weekend full of relaxation and peacefulness. We couldn’t have chosen better. The view from the lodge is stunning and even better whilst sitting in the hot tub. We hit on with the weather with two beautiful days, lovely for the walk around the lake and general relaxation on the veranda.
A perfect weekend break.
We will be back.

Our fourth visit to the Tranquil Otter
Our fourth visit to the Tranquil Otter and yet again we had a lovely time!
The weather was bright and crisp and we enjoyed our walks around the lake. The hot tub was a wonderful addition and we loved gazing up at the stars.
Food at the Greyhound was fantastic and Walby Farm great for the children!
Back to school tomorrow.

Our third visit to the Tranquil Otter
Our third visit to the Tranquil Otter and just as perfect as we have come to expect.
Already making plans for next year – which speaks for itself!

Had a great time here, very peaceful
Had a great time here, very peaceful. The hot tub was great and had a great New Year looking at the stars at midnight. The dogs loved the walks.
Really enjoyed the peacefulness and the family loved the sauna, hot tub and boat. My dog tried to catch my husband in the boat but gave up and swam to shore.
It would benefit from a bigger sofa as people struggled to fit on comfortably. Our friends in Egret had a better sofa with reclinery.
Apart from this we really enjoyed ourselves and would love to return in the future.
Vicki & Andy Oakes (Peak District)
Fabulous break, beautiful as always
Fabulous break, beautiful as always. Fed the ducks, cuddled Leah and even managed to get out on the boat. (although the ice made it a bit tricky)
Hot tub wonderfully relaxing and sauna divine after being out too! The wildlife is wonderful swans so majestic.
Our last morning today and the place looks like a winter wonderland – just amazing! Thank you Nick & Tazeem you have a lovely place here. Hope to see you again.
Jeanette, Peter, Wendy, Ron & Vicky
PS Alex and Nick were in the Dunnock lodge this time and said to pass on their thanks. Having twins this time round they didn’t have time to write in their guestbook!
A lovely family break with perfect weather for the hot tub
A lovely family break with perfect weather for the hot tub. We went to Longburgh Pool and had a great time. We went to Walby Farm on Sunday and the children met Santa and got a lovely gift.
Thank you for a wonderful break at Tranquil Otter, peaceful and tranquil
Thank you for a wonderful break at Tranquil Otter, peaceful and tranquil. Lovely facility, everything we needed. Hot tub wonderful fun. Really enjoyed that on the cold damp evenings.
Could have done with a little more power in the shower though!
Thank you again for the wonderful hospitality.
Bev (Isle of Man)
A great time, facilities wonderful, especially the hot tub, so relaxing after a hard day’s shop.
Beautiful, peaceful surroundings, good range of wildlife especially the ‘hooting owl.’
Would definitely want to come back.
Susan (Isle of Man)
Our second visit and had a lovely time again
Our second visit and had a lovely time again. Sauna & hot tub were great. The weather was against us but we still had a good time.
The internet access is great and very comfortable beds.
Bigger variety of birds than last time.
Thanks for a tranquil break for all the family.
Flood family (Edinburgh)
First time at Tranquil Otter
First time at Tranquil Otter. Absolutely wonderful. Six family members here and all enjoyed stay, especially the hot tub. Will come again hopefully.
This won’t be my last visit to Tranquil Otter – a beautiful place to relax completely – wonderful weekend with family.
A beautiful place to relax we will definitely be back again…loved every minute!
Our third visit, loved it again! 1st time was our first trip away together. 2nd time for our honeymoon. 3rd time we’ve brought the family and a baby bump in tow!
Didn’t see the otter unfortunately but loved the hot tub as ever. No doubt we’ll be back again.
Thanks very much.
James & Lisa Boulby
This is our first break to Tranquil Otter and would definitely return
This is our first break to Tranquil Otter and would definitely return. We won this break as Nick & Tazeem donated this break to raise money for charity, which I think is very generous of them; they helped raise a lot of money. We have had a fantastic time, hot tub, having a walk around the lake not forgetting the wildlife which made our break. We also had a “top to toe” massage which was brilliant. Overall a brilliant break, peaceful & relaxing.
Claire, Shaun, Lisa, Steven (Newcastle) Diane, Margey (Gateshead)
Excellent break, the seating, the facilities are great

Last minute booking to celebrate our 6th wedding Anniversary
Last minute booking to celebrate our 6th wedding Anniversary (on the 23rd) and some quality time with our 15 year old chocolate lab. The Weather Gods have been uncharacteristically kind to us. The primary intention was to relax following recent illness diagnosis so it’s probably a good job that none of the horse centres could accommodate us but we did enjoy a Clay Pigeon Shooting lesson. The facilities here are fabulous. (there are some really great holiday lets out there!) We sauna’ed, hot tubbed cooked & barbecued. (and dripped melted chocolate on the book – sorry!) Amber paddled and upset the swan family. Thank you for coming to our rescue; it is exactly what we had in mind. Hope to be back soon.
Brendan & Victoria Gill & Amber the dog
We have had a lovely time at the Tranquil Otter
We have had a lovely time at the Tranquil Otter. We really enjoyed going out on the canoe, relaxing in the hot tub and hanging out with the dog Leah. We will definitely be coming back.
Sabrina & Richard (Newcastle)
Came here to celebrate our wedding Anniversary
Came here to celebrate our wedding Anniversary, what a place to come to – perfect. The place truly is tranquil, could not ask for anything better. Hot tub and view are superb, even when it is raining. Cannot wait to come back here again.

We came here to celebrate being together for a year and had an amazing time
We came here to celebrate being together for a year and had an amazing time. It’s been great to get away from it all in this stunning location, watching and listening to all the wildlife from our lodge. We’ll definitely be returning at some point!
Liz (Huddersfield) & Tim (Darlington)
We have had a great week, really enjoyed ourselves
We have had a great week, really enjoyed ourselves. The facilities and location is first class. We have been out every day, except today (Friday) exploring Hadrian’s Wall, the coastline, the lakes and all in between.
Today we have seen an otter and a woodpecker right outside the cabin. We were fascinated by the swans ‘dancing’ around each other guarding their territory and also the bats we watched from the hot tub.
Hope to come again.
Paul & Beryl Jordan (Nottingham)
What a gorgeous weekend we have had at the Tranquil Otter
What a gorgeous weekend we have had at the Tranquil Otter. Could not have dreamed of a more picture perfect 30th birthday. Thanks for a lovely, warm welcome… The banana cake on arrival was delicious. I (Louise) go home with a beautiful extra… a beautiful ring on my finger, very happy lady. Well done to my lovely fiancé for making this weekend so special.
Alastair & Louise (Stoke-on-Trent)
Here we are again – 4th visit. (2nd this year!!)
Here we are again – 4th visit. (2nd this year!!)
Can’t stay away!
Weather mixed, chilly and windy but didn’t keep us from walking the lake and “hot tubbing”.
We feel so at home here we even brought our slippers!!
Alan & Zoe Grocott (Ashby de la Zouch, North Leicestershire)
What a fantastic place to spend a few days escaping from the “rat race”
What a fantastic place to spend a few days escaping from the “rat race”. Heaven! The lodge is perfect and the setting stunning – I don’t want to leave! Enjoyed biking around the lake and exploring the surrounding area. Sitting in the hot tub in the evening with the bird chirping is divine! Thank you Nick and Tazeem! I will be returning!
Martin France (Shrewsbury, Shropshire)
PS I think I saw an otter swim across the back of the lodge early one morning! Awwww!
PPS Look out for the militant swan – it took a particular dislike to me – even when I fed it!
Thank you for such a lovely stay at the Tranquil Otter
Thank you for such a lovely stay at the Tranquil Otter. Our weekend away has been so relaxing and peaceful. The lodge itself was lovely. It was great to meet Dave the swan, he even hisses “please” and “thank you” when you feed him – which will keep you busy during the day with his visits along with his duck friends. Leah is gorgeous and took us on a lovely walk around the lake each day. We really enjoyed her visits and will be coming again soon just to see her. The hot tub was brilliant at any time of day. The wildlife is great, lots of birds to see. We did search for the otter but to no avail – we will have to come back to try and find them. The walk around the lake is lovely. We hope to come back again very soon.
Anne & Mick Todd (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
All we can say is “Heaven”
All we can say is “Heaven”. We enjoyed the hot tub every day, early morning, every evening and late at night.
Each time of day in the tub a fantastic experience, listening to the birds, watching bats fly overhead and visits from Leah the dog.
Beautiful lodge and the bird feeders an excellent added bonus. The view is amazing and we could quite happily live here forever!
The walk round to the bird hide is lovely.
Hoping to come back in a few months with our teenagers and mothers! My dad died of cancer 18 months ago and my only regret is that we didn’t discover the Tranquil Otter sooner as Dad would have loved it here. I raised a glass of bubbly to him every night in the hot tub. We even enjoyed a lovely row around the lake.
Thank you Nick & Tazeem for sharing your little piece of heaven with us.
Veronica & Mark Wootton (Cupar, Fife, Scotland)
Just arrived today, this was a surprise for my birthday
Just arrived today, this was a surprise for my birthday and it was the most amazing treat, such an amazing place, it’s now 8:20 we have unpacked, the hot tub is heating up ready and the log fire is roaring so fantastic. “I have the best boyfriend ever!!!”
Nick, Jodie & George (Birch Vale, Derbyshire)
What a beautiful and most tranquil place
What a beautiful and most tranquil place. As has already been said by others, this is our first visit to Tranquil Otter but it most certainly will not be our last. We have loved every minute and didn’t realise that doing so little in perfect surroundings was so tiring. Thank you for your perfect location and thank you to my husband for bringing me to this beautiful place.
Robbie & Alison (Tadley, Hants)
Our second time and just as memorable as the first
Thank you Tazeem & Nick & boys.
Our second time and just as memorable as the first. Peaceful, beautiful and relaxing at its best.
See you next Easter.
Hope you have a good year.

Wow! What an amazing place
Wow! What an amazing place. The perfect place for a perfect time in our lives. Aarti & I discovered 2 week ago that we’re pregnant. We already had this trip booked by that time and spending the last 3 nights here in what has seemed to be complete isolation has been a great way to celebrate and reflect on such a beautiful blessing. Prior to this trip Aarti & I were partners of 5 years this coming Friday. (an Anniversary celebration here too) Upon leaving we are now engaged. For us this has been the perfect way to combine many happy moments all in one place.
Unfortunately, we didn’t find the time to go out onto the lake with being caught up in each other by the log fire but the freezing temperatures didn’t stop us from enjoying the hot tub. It was stunning in the evenings but we had our best time in here the morning I proposed. Lots of funny pics to remember that moment forever.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment here and will certainly be returning, maybe shortly after our honeymoon, as I imagine we’ll need a break.
Andy & Aarti (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
It’s our first time here and I have to say, I don’t think it will be our last
It’s our first time here and I have to say, I don’t think it will be our last. We have been here for 4 days, the weather has been very cold with ice covering parts of the lake, which I have to say is amazing and I would love to have in my back garden. The cold weather probably added to the tranquillity of the place and certainly did not stop us using the hot tub in the evening after long walks around the Lake District. The rowing boat is good fun to take out if you get a chance, we took it out one afternoon for an hour or two while the lake was calm; I couldn’t imagine taking it out if the wind was blowing as it’s directionally challenged. We still haven’t seen those otters.
Sarah & Chris (Chelmsford, Essex)
We were here for a relaxing week for our honeymoon and boy did we get it
We were here for a relaxing week for our honeymoon and boy did we get it. Fantastic lodge and the owners could not have been more friendly. We had one issue with the log burner which could have been our fault but the response we got was first rate. I can recommend that the first log will die on you but once the burner is good and hot, it’ll burn for ages. Although we only ventured out a few times I can heartily recommend the Greyhound pub in Burgh by Sands as they are a very friendly pub with great food. So sad to be leaving but hope to be back again.
Paul & Laura (Billericay, Essex)
Sad to be writing this because we’re leaving!
Sad to be writing this because we’re leaving! Wonderful lodge in a wonderful setting. Most amazing views in the sunrise and sunset. Leah is so cute and friendly and we’ve promised our new friends (the ducks) we’ll be back again to see them.
Darren & Melissa
Another amazing visit for our wedding anniversary.
Another amazing visit for our wedding anniversary.
Desperately needed total chill time which was wonderful. Must visit Bowness on Solway and drive through Burgh by Sands, very pleasant drive and then onto lunch at Cups and Saucers Team Room. You must have their free range Jersey milk coffee; it’s the best ever. Staff so friendly, address: Seaville Farm, Silloth, CA7 4PT – Enjoy and thanks Tazeem & Nick x.
Susan & Ed (Northumberland)
Our 4th visit. A different lodge for us this time but a fantastic experience!
Our 4th visit. A different lodge for us this time but a fantastic experience! ‘Otterly’ perfect as usual. Very relaxing; lots to see and do. We are sorry to leave and are looking forward to our next visit. Thanks to Nick, Tazeem & the team.

Our first time here and we’ve had such a relaxing break
Our first time here and we’ve had such a relaxing break. It was everything we could have hoped for and much, much more. Sitting in the hot tub, enjoying the views of the Lough when darkness fell and watching the Stars was amazing. Everything, including the weather, was perfect.
Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven with us!
Peter & Audrey (Buckley, North Wales)
Our first time here and we had a fab stay
Our first time here and we had a fab stay. Sitting in the hot tub looking at the lovely at the lovely view of the Lough was so relaxing and the lodge had everything you needed and was very cosy. Would love to come back at Christmas time and enjoy a different view of the Lough in Winter.
Thank you for a lovely holiday.
Val & Andy & Molly the dog (Cheshire)
We’ve had a lovely holiday in this very relaxing and “tranquil” setting
We’ve had a lovely holiday in this very relaxing and “tranquil” setting. Had lunch out a couple of times and would recommend The Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite (beware road closure at top of Bassenthwaite Lake (near Keswick/Cockermouth)) and The Gate Inn, Yanwath. (near Penrith) Both a 40 minute drive away and not cheap but food good quality and lovely atmosphere. Enjoyed also walk around the lake and the company of Leah the dog on occasion. First time we’ve explored Lake District, so many beautiful places – Ambleside, Cockermouth, Hawkshead, not to mention the scenery!
We wish the next guests at this lodge a great holiday and lots of sunshine.
Gordon & Jackie Horsburgh (Edinburgh)
We came here for Claire’s birthday…
We came here for Claire’s birthday… and what can we say, from the moment we arrived, Tazeem and Nick and all the staff were extremely welcoming and very helpful. The lodge at first sight blew me away and we knew we were going to have a fantastic week.
We made the most of all Tranquil Otter had to offer, Charlotte used the rowing boat and once she got the hang of it, off she went and there was no stopping her. We used the hot tub every day and also the log burner, which was lovely and cosy every night. We had ok weather for our stay, it showered off and on but even the showers couldn’t stop us from enjoying the Tranquil Otter. Another great point at the Tranquil Otter is the bird feeders; we enjoyed watching all the different birds that visited us over the week.
We also enjoyed the walk around the lake and especially the bird hide across the lake. Our main purpose for our holiday was to experience the fell walks that the Lake District offers, we walked every day and if you are keen walkers, ‘Haystacks’ is a must do, it was amazing. Our dogs as well as us really appreciated coming back to such a relaxing lodge in a heavenly location after a hard day’s walking…we would love to come back.
So to all at Tranquil Otter – thank you very much!
Claire Harding, Charlotte Simmons, Roxy (the dog) & Reggie (the dog) (Torquay, South Devon)
Had a wonderful weekend at the Tranquil Otter

We came here for our honeymoon for a four night stay…
We came here for our honeymoon for a four night stay…
WOW!! – An absolutely faultless venue. The views money just can’t buy, the lodge is amazing and the hot tub is spectacular. Every night with a glass of wine putting the world to rights! An amazing experience. We have been blessed by a heat wave to boot which has made for our best holidays yet. Who needs to go abroad when you have the Tranquil Otter?
My husband summed it up last night clutching an ice cold beer in the hot tub and gazing at the stars – he said, “I think this is as close as it gets to paradise!!”
The cake and sparkling wine were a lovely welcome as was Leah the dog who came daily to check on us bless her! We have enjoyed every minute and will definitely be returning. Be sure to check out the private swimming pool just 1 mile down the road. £14 and the place is just for you for an hour! You have to pre-book though! Well worth it!
So to sum up, if you are reading this guest book then you are obviously already here so just sit back, relax and enjoy. You’re going to love it!!
Have a lovely time!
Thanks again Nick and Tazeem!
We will be back!!
Steve & Jo Swanson (Hull, East Yorkshire)
We have literally lost count of how many times we’ve stayed at the Tranquil Otter
We have literally lost count of how many times we’ve stayed at the Tranquil Otter. What we do know is that each time is different. This time it was all about the birds. There are three new families of swans on the Lough, one of which visited us at breakfast time. We also found two woodpecker nests in the woods and managed to capture footage of the chicks being fed, as well as the parents taking food from the bird feeder at the front of the lodge. I feel like Bill Oddie but in a good way.
Thanks once again.
Mark & Michelle (West Yorkshire)
This was our 5th visit to the Tranquil Otter
This was our 5th visit to the Tranquil Otter – although only a short visit this time it was still worth it. We will be back hopefully for a bit longer next time.
An excellent place to relax and unwind. The hot tub and log burner are a must. Thanks very much, see you soon.
Kathy & Doug Hopkins (Widnes, Cheshire)
The most relaxing and peaceful holiday we have had together
The most relaxing and peaceful holiday we have had together. This was my birthday present from Steve, on the recommendation of my 19 year old daughter who has stayed here before. We have truly relaxed and this is unheard of for Steve, who never sits down for more than 10 minutes but we have walked, ran with Tilly our dog, cycled along Hadrian’s Wall Path and then enjoyed mornings and evenings in the hot tub watching the ducks, swans, bats and ever changing weather.
We are intending to re book for my birthday next year…aren’t we Steve…
Ok…Trace has summed up this up nicely – great location, fab lodge and amazing lake view from the hot tub. So yes – we will be back in 2014!
Tilly the dog – so loved walking round the lake! And she went in the water (lake), overcoming her fear of it.
Steve & Trace (Worcestershire)
Thank you for sharing your little piece of “Heaven on Earth” with us
Thank you for sharing your little piece of “Heaven on Earth” with us.
Arthur and I have had three wonderful days here and we will most definitely return. Our only regret is we did not find you sooner. You made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived and we will be recommending the Tranquil Otter to all our family and friends. (the hot tub was fantastic!!!)
Thank you once again.
See you very soon.
Arthur & Annabell McErlane (Glasgow)
This is our first time here but this won’t be the last
This is our first time here but this won’t be the last. An amazing place – great location, beautiful lodge, stunning surroundings and perfect hosts. Tazeem and Nick were so welcoming and so was Leah!
There isn’t anything I would change here, quiet, homely and simply beautiful!
Thanks for a great stay and hope to be back soon!

Kirk booked this as a surprise weekend and this was a first in 15 years together!
Kirk booked this as a surprise weekend and this was a first in 15 years together! He can definitely do it again as it has turned out to be the most romantic weekend yet.
Proposing with the most amazing ring on a rowing boat and champagne picnic has to be the highlight – simply beautiful with swans around us – although Kirk’s rowing needs work! Ha.
Having 3 children at home this has been the perfect place to get away from the hectic lives we lead – so peaceful.
Thank you for all the chocs and cake and I’m sure we will be back.
Zoe & Kirk (Hull)
Thank you very much for a lovely week

We have stayed many times over the years at Tranquil Otter
We have stayed many times over the years at Tranquil Otter but this was our first in Fieldfare. As always we could want for nothing and the ‘little touches’ as mentioned by previous guests were very much appreciated.
We’ve had a great chill out and could not wish to be anywhere else to see the New Year in.
Many thanks Tazeem, Nick and all the team.
Dave & Christine (Penwortham, Lancashire)
We have had a wonderful few days
We have had a wonderful few days. We really enjoyed the hot tub and log burner. All the little touches were really appreciated including the fully equipped kitchen and Christmas tree!
We will be back…
Lucy & Kevin (Henley on Thames)
Back again and had a lovely Anniversary!
Back again and had a lovely Anniversary! The Christmas tree is a lovely touch at this time of year and all the changes to the lodge only add to its comfort.
Weather was perfect for December, cold and crisp and made the whole lake very picturesque. We did the walk ‘5’ from the file but you need an OS map if you are not to make it 15k! (Tazeem has one – we found out later) But great day and big adventure.
Hot tub the star as always and lots of shooting ones to see very night.
Still no otter but then that’s what keeps us coming back.
Christmas Greetings and a Peaceful 2013.
Linda & Alan
We came here for our mini moon
We came here for our mini moon – literally “just married” arrived still in my wedding dress! Was welcomed and helped into our cabin – which was beautiful.
Hot tub is amazing – even when the lake was freezing over – we enjoyed being sat listening to the nature around us.
Everything we needed was here to cook lovely meals. And the local pub Royal Oak (just down the road) is really welcoming; fun local people and really good food!!
The cabin – cleaning staff – amazing!!
Thank you for a memorable, beautiful weekend.
Sarah & Andy Orange (Leeds)
Had yet another wonderful stay at Tranquil Otter
Had yet another wonderful stay at Tranquil Otter. This is our 3rd year and still every time we come, the holiday is as special as the first time. Was lovely seeing Tazeem again always very friendly and amazing hosts.
Sally (the dog) enjoyed watching the ducks and guarding the decking. Forgot my wellies this year so found it slightly harder to walk round the lake especially in my uggs but managed to convince Matthew to give me a piggy back. So it was worth it. Still managed to get out on the boat, maybe next year.
Had a wonderful time, can’t wait until next year, thank you Nick and Tazeem.
Not wanting to go home.
Nicole, Matthew & Sally (the dog)
We came for our 30th Anniversary
We came for our 30th Anniversary and our only complaint is that it took us so long to find you. Definitely coming back, may even tell our kids about the place so that they come up here – then again, let them find their own Oasis of peace.
And the hot tub is soooooo good.
Chris & Pat Broughton (Wirral)
We’ve had a fabulous stay, very relaxing
We’ve had a fabulous stay, very relaxing, even with an 8 month baby in tow. We will certainly be back and can’t wait to tell our family and friends about it. Our only suggestion would be the option to hire a fireguard, as our little crawling man was very inquisitive.
See you again.
James, Charlotte & Oliver (Telford, Shropshire)
Thank you Tranquil Otter for making our mini moon so lovely

This was our first visit to the Tranquil Otter for our honeymoon.
Loved every minute of it especially the hot tub, log fire and stunning surroundings could not have asked for a more relaxing time. Will definitely recommend to all our friends and family.

Lodge is perfect and private
What an amazing place. Lodge is perfect and private. So well featured.
Lucky with the weather, walked 20 miles in 2 days.
Will definitely come back.
Steve & Claire
We have had a thoroughly enjoyable few days
Whilst it’s all been said before we must say everything about this place is fantastic. We have had a thoroughly enjoyable few days and wish we could stay longer.
Take away from the Mango Tree was delivered and one of the best Indian takeaways we have had (and we’ve had a few!).
The Royal Oak, Wellington, Greyhound pubs locally were all closed Tuesday lunch, so ring ahead.
Casa Romana in Carlisle is a great little restaurant.
Had fun in the boat n the Lough but forget rowing as you know it! Do visit the bird hide.
Thanks Leah for our regular visits, sorry we couldn’t feed you. (Tazeem said we couldn’t!)
Thanks Tazeem, nothing was too much trouble, will be back.
Angela & Marc (Wigan)

Wow what a wonderful time we have had here!
Wow what a wonderful time we have had here! It has been our second visit and we loved the new leather recliners, canoe and bird feeder and our boys loved the homemade cakes! What a perfect winter retreat with lots of cosy log fires, hot tubs and saunas and stunning views across the lough. Already planning our next visit, cannot wait to come again!
Brandon, Lisa, Ashton, Kade, Rhys & Poppy the dog
No doubt we’ll be back
Our second stay here though first in this lodge. Much better lodge with everything you need but a king size bed would be a plus! Had a pleasant weekend stay though didn’t do much as rather chilly!
Would recommend eating at The Greyhound in Burgh by Sands and The Wellington in Great Orton – both fantastic home cooked food and lovely staff.
We had a quick walk at Bowness on Solway though it was too cold for our 3 year old. Would imagine it’d be nicer in milder weather!
Overall a nice cosy stay in ‘the little house’ as our son referred to it as. No doubt we’ll be back.
Julie, Craig & Lucas
Couldn’t have asked for anything better!
We have had an amazing new year at the lodge. Couldn’t have asked for anything better!
Beautiful views of the lake, cosy lodge and lots of finishing touches that made our stay perfect.
Loved the hot tub & sauna!! & the massage from Georgia from Eden spa was bliss.
Hope to be back soon & Honey has loved it!!
Lynn, Frank, Holly, Jamie & Honey the dog
We’ve had a lovely break in a beautiful lodge in peaceful surroundings
Visited with the family for a long relaxing weekend for my 40th birthday. We’ve had a lovely break in a beautiful lodge in peaceful surroundings, everything I could have wished for. We’ve loved the hot tub and strolling round the Lough. The girls loved walking Leah round (or should I say Leah walked them round!) They loved it! A shame we had to leave. Thank you for all the special touches – chocolates on the Xmas tree.
Julie, Steve & girls (Leeds)
The most wonderful place to have got engaged!
A lovely, lovely cabin with everything you could need (and then some!) in serene, beautiful surroundings – the most wonderful place to have got engaged! The absolute perfect week – thank you!

It’s a perfect retreat for anybody at any time of year
This is our 2nd time visiting the Tranquil Otter and both times have been perfect; it’s a perfect retreat for anybody at any time of year. The views are very awe-inspiring and stunning all year round. We have loved our break away and enjoyed the hot tub and sauna. Thank you for a perfect family break, we’ll be back in 2013 and can’t wait already.

What a perfect, perfect place to recover from a difficult year
What a perfect, perfect place to recover from a difficult year.
Nick & Tazeem and all the team are just lovely.
We felt so welcome, the lodge is 1st class. We have spent the time texting family and telling them they have to visit the Tranquil Otter.
Leah the resident dog was a delight as she popped round to see us most days.
Hot tub and sauna are fab we will so miss the hot tub.
We will be back.
Thank you to all the team.
Alan & Emma (Scotland)
We hope to return as soon as we can
To start we want to say thank you not only to Nick & Tazeem but their team especially the cleaners for a fantastic holiday in the Egret lodge.
You have put together a superb tranquil heaven which allows you to de-stress and reconnect with yourself and your family.
The lodge was cosy and comfortable, fixtures and fittings of high quality and little extras i.e. a pint of milk in the fridge before our arrival and some biscuits for family and dog, Molly, were much appreciated.
Boat, hot tub and sauna were a big hit with all of us. We got the hang of the log fire eventually. (tip – use newspaper)
We visited the Royal Oak in Moorhouse and would recommend their Sunday lunches, wonderful!
The holiday exceeded our expectations and will be spreading the Tranquil Otter name back home.
We hope to return as soon as we can.
The Lea family
Overall a fantastic weekend in this tranquil hideout
Beautifully relaxing and serene, an ideal setting for getting away from it all. Very well equipped lodge and helpful owners.
Overall a fantastic weekend in this tranquil hideout.

Beautiful place to spend my birthday
Thank you for the hospitality, a beautiful lodge & wonderful surroundings.
As usual, everything was impeccable. Beautiful place to spend my birthday.
Jim & Carolyn
We have had a wonderful week and loved the lodge
We have been coming to the Tranquil Otter for many years. This is the first time in Egret. We have had a wonderful week and loved the lodge. The porch has been great when the weather was rainy.
It was unfortunate that we couldn’t use the wheely boat because of the weed on the lake – very difficult to row the lodge boat through it.
Hope to see you again soon.
Thanks Tazeem & Nick.
Linda, Phil & Stephen Gavin
This was just what we were looking for
After much searching and surfing this was just what we were looking for. Our 1st break away from our business in 6 and a half years and it lived up to everything we read about it. Peace, quiet, wildlife, Leah the dog, hot tub, wine – I feel like I’ve been here forever but unfortunately work calls. Definitely recommend to family & friends and will be back again soon.
Gwyneth & Andrew Leighton (Chesterfield, Derbyshire)

Beautiful, peaceful & tranquil
Beautiful, peaceful & tranquil. What more could you ask for, what more would you want. A lovely place, run by lovely people. Thanks Nick & Tazeem and the rest of the gang for a spectacular week. An added bonus was taking Leah for a walk every day & thanks for the welcome pack, it was very much appreciated.
Hope to see you again next year.

This is our first time here and don’t want to leave
This is our first time here and don’t want to leave, lodge is lovely and cosy, especially at night with the fire lit. Lovely view of the lake. Looked forward to our daily visit from Leah & the duck!
Nikki & Brian (Liverpool)
This is our 4th time to this lovely, relaxing place
WOW!! This is our 4th time to this lovely, relaxing place. We have had a great relaxing 3 night break. Don’t want to leave – lovely walks around the lake & to the Wellington Pub – Leah has said ‘hello’ to us every morning – along with the ducks.
Hot Tub – Brilliant, especially with champagne.
Lodge spotless as usual.
We definitely return soon, take care.
Christine, Peter, Mandy & Eddie (Birmingham)
Pleased to say still as beautiful and tranquil as ever

One word = WOW
One word = WOW.
Such an amazingly peaceful place. Really does live up to its name. Tranquillity second to none!
• The hot tub late at night
• Breakfast in the morning overlooking such an amazing view of the lake
• The log fire roaring inside whilst the temperature plummeted outside
• A gorgeous home cooked meal
• The rowing boat across the lake
Thanks to Nick and Tazeem for their hospitality.
Definitely see you again soon.
Mat & Lee
We’ve had an absolutely brilliant time
We’ve had an absolutely brilliant time, Chiffchaff has been amazing – the hot tub is a must!
Would definitely recommend a trip out in the rowing boat but watch out for those swans.
Wish I could turn 30 every year and get spoiled this way! Sad to go!
Daniel & Nathalie (Nottingham)
Came to Chiffchaff for our honeymoon and it has been perfect!
Came to Chiffchaff for our honeymoon and it has been perfect! The lodge is beautiful and the views are amazing. We have loved our visits from the beautiful Leah and will miss her!
The hot tub is the best remedy after long walks around the lakes. Very sad to be leaving here and can’t wait to come back!
Thank you for helping to make our honeymoon perfect!
Daniella & Mike Wright (Surrey)
Had a really relaxing, fun and memorable honeymoon
Did the Hadrian’s Wall walk from the visitor’s book. Got lost 3 times but we managed the walk in 6 hours. Great fun.
Visited Carlisle and the castle on a sunny day.
We ate at La Pergola. What a lovely meal!! Worth every penny and very friendly staff. They even gave us a small bottle of plonk to go away with.
Visited Gretna Green and the outlet shops.
Had a take away from the Mango Tree very nice and again lovely staff.
Hot tub ace. Rowing boat barrels of laughs. Log fire brill!! Had a really relaxing, fun and memorable honeymoon. (Smoke alarms are hypersensitive)
Every time we went for a walk around the lake, Leah found us and showed us the way. What a great guide. Ducks and swans lovely. Going clay pigeon shooting in the morning… Again great fun and a lovely, patient man.
Time to go home.
Rob & Pam Quinn (Shipley, West Yorkshire)
Came for the first week of our honeymoon and was amazing!
Came for the first week of our honeymoon and was amazing! Gave us the space and time to relax and spend time together without loads of interruptions.
The hot tub was used every day! And much fun was had with the canoe – mainly laughing at each other’s inability to row against the wind.
Enjoyed having the company of the ducks and swans, the little chaffinch on the bird feeder and the occasional visit from Leah.
Had a great day out on the bikes – through Great Orton and tea at Orton Grange – though our bums ached afterwards!
To top it all off, we got to relax in the evenings in front of the wood burner with a DVD or book. (or watching the final of Masterchef)
Sam & Deb Lyden (Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands)
Stunning lodge and stunning area
Stunning lodge and stunning area. Where to start… In just one week, we have managed to see and do so many things.
Hadrian’s Wall and a very brisk walk along it. (it was very windy and the clouds looked very heavy)
Keswick and the walks from there. A 9km circular walk to Walla Crag and then back along the shore of Derwentwater. Buttermere, a tiny village/hamlet but a beautiful walk around the lake and a couple of nice pubs.
Would highly recommend the 6 lakes drive. Fantastic scenery and chance to see the larger lakes and towns. Aira Force is also worth a stop. One last walk to the Jaws of Borrowdale and Castle Crag. Also stunning views from the Honister pass.
Ventured out (very briefly) on the Lough in the kayak! Watch out for the swans!
Finally, plenty of soothing aching muscles in the hot tub!
Will definitely be back.
Sue Banford & Becca Swain & Annie the dog (Etchingham, East Sussex)
Relaxing, peaceful, beautiful, rejuvenating and perfect!
Relaxing, peaceful, beautiful, rejuvenating and perfect!
A haven in what is, for most, a chaotic rat race conducive to the modern working world!
Sophie Hewett & Nigel Saunders (Wirral, Merseyside)
It has been absolute bliss
Our little bit of ‘Tranquil Otter’ heaven is coming to an end as we sit in front of our last log fire before the hot tub. (A nightly ritual) Hoping for a clear night so we can watch the stars again.
Busy planning already our next week’s stay here – it has been absolute bliss – thank you.
Jan & Tracey (Peterborough, Cambs)
PS Will miss our new friend Leah. (couldn’t quite fit her in the suitcase!)
We’ve had an extremely relaxing time at Chiffchaff
We’ve had an extremely relaxing time at Chiffchaff. Well, except for when we decided to venture out into the canoe. A small warning to all budding sailors wanting to conquer the Seven Seas; don’t go out on a windy day!!! Watch out for the reeds! And row fast! Don’t row with the boat sideways to the wind! We could go on. The main thing is, we got out dry…just.
We couldn’t keep our eyes off the scenery or the wildlife. We highly recommend feeding the ducks and going for a walk around the lake…although, bring wellies!
We’ve only been here for a few days but we feel completely and ‘otterly’ relaxed.
Anne & Ben (Brighton, East Sussex)
We’ve had the best break here!
We’ve had the best break here! Couldn’t stop looking at the view from our cabin, it’s beautiful. Hot tub and log burner was a real treat. Verity has been truly spoilt for her 30th birthday. We are both totally relaxed and will definitely be back again.
Adam & Verity (Walsall, West Midlands)
We have had a fantastic, relaxing week here
Came here for our honeymoon after getting married in Gretna and we have had a fantastic, relaxing week here.
We have enjoyed the walks around the lake and going out on the boat and we loved the hot tub!
We had 2 great days out along round trip 1 & 2 from the handbook, both highly recommended.
We will miss seeing the ducks and swans and feeding them and we will miss seeing Leah the dog dearly also!
Can’t wait to come back one day…
Rob & Marie Hanley (Wigan)
Had an amazing time
Had an amazing time, the lodge was perfect. The scenery was amazing as well, we will definitely be coming back in the future.
Owen & Hollie (Sunderland)
We have had such an amazing time
Today (13/2) is our 25th wedding Anniversary and we have had such an amazing time, love love love it here. Will update this tomorrow as I think I have had too much champagne!!
(15/2) Packing up to go home now. Had a brilliant time. We did Gretna Green and Hadrian’s Wall on Tuesday and a visit to Lanercost Tea Room is a must!! Wednesday was a bit of a disaster as tried to visit the lakes but had to turn back due to the snow but did visit Aira Waterfall which is very pretty.
Thursday we visited Edinburgh which cost £26 each on the train; we got a taxi to Carlisle with Barry’s Taxi, a really nice and friendly firm and had a very enjoyable day. We did the open top bus tour and Edinburgh Dungeon. We ate traditional food in the Doric pub opposite the Dungeon, Cullen skink and haggis, well when in Scotland!! Lovely to come back here and relax in front of the fire or a dip in the hot tub, it was a fantastic break!
Michael & Ann (Bristol)
It was exactly what we hoped for
We came to the Tranquil Otter for a mini honeymoon and it was exactly what we hoped for – peace and relaxation.
The hot tub is a must on a clear night. The owners were very helpful on assisting us with anything we needed.
Whilst here, we also visited local pub ‘The Royal Oak’ – lovely pub and the owners and the locals couldn’t have made us feel more welcome.
We hope to be back again next year to celebrate our Anniversary!
Laura & Jay (Stockport, Greater Manchester)
Thank you for everything
A truly wonderful break, the lodge, the hot tub and the surroundings – we couldn’t have asked for more! We are now very relaxed. (Returning to ‘normal’ life could be an issue!) We simply have to come back for more…
Thank you for everything.
Claire & Ian (Tamworth)
Simply perfect…we will miss Leah.
Laura & Tim (Doncaster/Manchester)
The perfect antidote to the stresses of city living and working!
The perfect antidote to the stresses of city living and working!
A wonderful haven, just as every previous reviewer has described…only better!!!
We spent the weekend ‘holed up’ in the lodge, snuggled up in front of the log fire or cosying in the hot tub, sustained by delicious foods from the luxury hamper plus champagne, strawberries and fillet steaks from the reat butchers in Dalston.
We are certain to return, the only decision to make will be when!
Angela & George (Chadderton, Lancs)
We will definitely be back again to visit you soon
It has been an absolute pleasure to spend the last five nights in your beautiful Chiffchaff cabin. Waking up to look at the magnificent view over the Lough has been nurturing for the soul. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality and we will definitely be back again to visit you soon. What a wonderful place to live!
Andrew Bates & Amy Dickson (London)

Our 5th visit so you can tell we love it so much
Oh, the wonderful Otter! Our 5th visit so you can tell we love it so much.
Pure heaven in a box.
Done lots of Christmas shopping and visited many places, Grasmere, Keswick, Penrith and Gretna. To come back to the Otter on an evening was bliss!
We will miss the ducks in the morning waiting for their bread and of course Leah, the Otter’s dog, who came to see me every day and who we took for a walk around the lake. (the owners had lent us some wellies!)
Packing up to go home and don’t want to go. How we will miss this tranquil, beautiful place boo, hoo, hoo.
We’ll be back!!
Yvonne & Simon Nicoll (West Yorkshire)
The Tranquil Otter was amazing
The Tranquil Otter was amazing. Had everything you could wish for. The views are amazing and the hot tub is also amazing. The lodge is well equipped. They have thought of everything you need.
Do not forget to feed the ducks.
The walks are brilliant.
Cannot wait to come back again.
Jackie & Paul (Doncaster)
The Tranquil Otter went above and beyond our expectations
What an amazing place! The Tranquil Otter went above and beyond our expectations. We loved our stroll around the lake, followed by a trip over it in our boar! The highlight though was the hot tub – great, even in the rain.
Can’t wait to book for next year!
See you soon.
Stephen & Scarlett Griffiths (Birmingham)
Everything about the Tranquil Otter is exactly what it says; tranquil
Everything about the Tranquil Otter is exactly what it says; tranquil. The 10 Lakes Tour from Windermere is a must.
Please don’t forget to feed the ducks.
Julia & Don Warner (London)
Chiffchaff proved to be most comfortable, warm and well equipped
We have no complaints whatsoever. Chiffchaff proved to be most comfortable, warm and well equipped. We wanted for nothing. Because of poor weather, we were unable to enjoy the loungers and eating outside but the hot tub made up for this. A most enjoyable and relaxing stay for Bill’s birthday treat.
Bill & Rita Wiggins (Tottingham, Lancs)
Truly the most amazing place!
We came here for our honeymoon and have had a wonderful, relaxing time. Lying in front of the wood burner then having a dip in the hot tub whilst looking at the stars is heaven on Earth!
Truly the most amazing place! A trip to Gretna Gateway Outlet is definitely recommended if you fancy some retail therapy and if you can draw yourselves away from the lodge for long enough. Edinburgh is definitely worth a visit. (about a 2 hour drive)
Thank you for a fantastic break!
See you again!
Phil & Emma Haines (Pershore, Worcestershire)
Had a wonderful time, very relaxing
Had a wonderful time, very relaxing. Hope to be back again.

The lodge was clean and had everything we needed
My husband and I came here to relax and that’s exactly what we achieved.
We had a warm welcome and as soon enjoying the view while eating the tasty cake left for us.
The lodge was clean and had everything we needed. The fact it already had the facilities like shower seat and easy to turn taps made my stay even better as no pre-planning was needed.
Our time was spent feeding the ducks and swans, watching the birds and bats, relaxing in the hot tub, boat trips out on the water and a short walk.
It was lovely each day to have Leah and the swans visit us.
I am already planning my next visit.
Enjoy your stay, I’m sure you will.
Victoria & Stuart (Wigan)
Everything met and exceeded our expectations!
Our 4th time staying at the Tranquil Otter, 2nd time in Buzzard and, as usual everything met and exceeded our expectations! We just love it so much here, it’s ‘soul food’. Thank you to Tazeem for such a lovely welcome back and for all the special little touches. The lodge is so clean and is a credit to the cleaning team, as always. Loved the ‘boat times’ and the ‘hot tubbing’! Saw some deer on a walk in the woods. (a tranquil first for us!) We have had mixed weather but it’s so beautiful here whatever the weather. Loved the new curtains in the lodge. Thank you once again for a fantastic chill out week, we will be returning home, sad to leave, as always, but relaxed after our break away from the ‘real world’! We will be back next year, there is nowhere else like it!
Helen & Martin (Leigh, Lancs)
We are so glad this turned out to be perfect!
This was our first stay at the Tranquil Otter and we have enjoyed every minute of it. We spent hours searching the internet to ensure we got exactly what we wanted and we are so glad this turned out to be perfect!
Very relaxing, enjoyable break, will definitely be booking up again. Don’t want to go home.
Amy & Terry (Greenwich, London)
Beautiful at any time of year
Our 11th stay at the Tranquil Otter and we have already booked our 12th. We’ve tried other places but nothing compares, we just keep coming back. Beautiful at any time of year. Once again, thank you for your hospitality, Nick & Tazeem.
Mark & Michelle (Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire)
Had a wonderful time, just the place to chill out
Had a wonderful time, just the place to chill out – no disturbance from anyone. Had a great laugh in the boat. (we think Oxford/Cambridge is next stop!) Lodge very well equipped, loved the log burner, felt really toasty. Hot tub cool if you know what we mean.
Boiler at times a little clunky but after a few drinks didn’t notice it. Thumbs up for a great weekend – looking forward to visiting again.
Ian, Maureen, Ian & Bernie (Rossendale, Lancashire)

Wonderful 1st stay in Buzzard
Wonderful 1st stay in Buzzard. What beautiful views and sound to wake up to, being serenaded asleep by geese and owls! Fantastic lodge, so well kept, immaculately clean and a true pleasure to stay in. Wish we could take it back to Derbyshire with us! Harley loved to watch the ducks on the big deck and enjoyed exploring the woods. Can’t wait to return!

Have enjoyed an amazing and very relaxing week here
Have enjoyed an amazing and very relaxing week here to celebrate my 30th birthday. My parents were able to join us for a couple of days mid week which was great. Recommend the hot tub and champagne at night watching the stars – bliss! For a nice restaurant ‘Davids’ in Carlisle was perfect for us – gorgeous food & good atmosphere. Mylo, our labrador, loved his daily walks around the lake. The lodge itself was very cosy & comfortable with a fantastic view. We are leaving very relaxed indeed. Don’t want to go! We will be back!
Jenn & Jenny & Mylo the dog (Guiseley, West Yorkshire)
We all had an amazing weekend
Our second visit to the Tranquil Otter, this time to celebrate my 30th and also bringing with us my parents. (their treat for my birthday)

We had a lovely relaxing time at the Tranquil Otter
We had a lovely relaxing time at the Tranquil Otter. Leah was very friendly and visited everyday. We enjoyed a row on the lake and some bird watching and spent our evenings in front of the fire and in the hot tub, just the break Dan needed before heading back to Afghanistan.
Thank you so much.
Tarryn & Daniel McAlister (Catterick, North Yorkshire)
It’s been so relaxing and we would both give 5*!!
Wow, what can we say had a lovely, relaxing time here the lake and boat, hot tub, walk round the lake and the 2 goats soooo cute! I bought the luxury hamper before arriving great, I would advise. We went out in the car for a meal the “Museum” Restaurant/Pub amazing and cheap!! Yes we drove but only 5 mins away, then dame back for drinks and hot tub! With the luxury hamper we had 2 BBQ’s. Buy your BBQ packs from reception. Great, just light and within 30 mins you’re ready to cook. It’s been so relaxing and we would both give 5*!! Especially for my partner who works “non stop”, he needs a break! And if we stayed at home he would “NEVER” relax, he would always find something to do. Thanks so much Nick & Tazeem and the cleaners!! (Great job oh and Erica so helpful) I love dog Leah (she’s a pal!!)
Michelle & Nick (St. Andrew’s, Fife, Scotland)
The place is idyllic and our busy lives were forgotten in a moment!
We came here for Laura’s birthday present and couldn’t have been happier. The place is idyllic and our busy lives were forgotten in a moment!
Andy & Laura (Chester)
We were delighted with the wonderful views
We have had a wonderful break in our favourite place. This was a much needed period of R&R for Moira, in particular, following an emergency operation on 21st May.
We have been coming to the Tranquil Otter view, at least twice a year for the past 8 years – that says it all!
Have never stayed in the Arctic Skua before but we were delighted with the wonderful views. A beautifully decorated and equipped lodge.
Bootsie (our retired greyhound) loved chatting with Leah through the fence!!
Thank you so much Tazeem – for everything.
Looking forward to October already!!
Moira, Susan and Bootsie the dog (Rosyth, Fife)
Another lovely stay at Tranquil Otter

Lovely, wonderful place
Lovely welcome. Lodge was clean and tidy and everything you need.
Wonderful view, especially on the flat bottom boat. (recommend this)
Hot tub was fab, especially as night watching the bats.
Lovely visit to Carlisle Castle and Cathedral. Friendly people and the weather was fantastic.
Would come again. Lovely, wonderful place.
Thanks Nick & Tazeem & Family.

Thank you for making the weekend one to treasure forever
Our first visit but definitely not our last!!
Tazeem was very welcoming and we had everything we needed to make our stay just perfect.
Lovely and peaceful, we enjoyed walking around the Lough and very much enjoyed the hot tub which I am reluctant to leave.
Sadly leaving to go back to the stresses of everyday work life but feel so chilled out after a weekend here.
Thank you for making the weekend one to treasure forever.
Paula & Craig Hazeldine (Bispham, Lancs)
Our first time here and it’s been lovely
Our first time here and it’s been lovely. Beautiful cabin, beautiful views and very peaceful.
Tazeem, Nick and co are all very welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed the walk around the lake and we have had beautiful quality time together.
This really is a wonderful place and we hope to return in the near future. With three children at home is has allowed us to enjoy each other and be a couple again!
Kirsty & Chris (Cambridgeshire)
PS Leah is such a cute and well behaved dog!!
Our 3rd visit since August!
Our 3rd visit since August! This time we were able to stay for longer. Still as good as the first time. As always very relaxing. For future guests we would recommend Mulholland Butchers, The Greyhound Inn and a nice 6 mile walk to Burgh by Sea via Moorhouse.
We will continue to recommend to family and friends.
We will return again!
Aaron & Emma Wright (West Midlands)
Another lovely weekend stay at Tranquil Otter
Another lovely weekend stay at Tranquil Otter.
We’ve been several times before staying in Fieldfare and Gadwall previously, this being our first time in Arctic Skua.
As with all the lodges, yet again we’ve enjoyed a fantastic lodge, with wonderful views of the Lough from the deck and fabulous hot tub. The canoe was a new addition this time and a new experience for us – great fun – but co ordinated movement if you want to stay dry!
We love this kind of holiday and stay in lodges up and down the country, mostly with got hot tubs and both agree that Tranquil Otter has the best lodges, hot tubs and views by far. We will be back.
Ray & Beverly Melia & Jess the dog
The Tranquil Otter has exceeded all expectations!
Wow. The Tranquil Otter has exceeded all expectations! During our stay we have experienced all weather conditions and the views have remained breathtaking throughout. We have enjoyed the beautiful walks around the lake and the dips in the hot tub that followed. One of the most peaceful holidays we have had together and we cannot wait to return.
Ben & Sadie (Didsbury, Manchester)
This have been a wonderful relaxing break for us
This have been a wonderful relaxing break for us, my hours of searching the internet certainly paid off when I came across this little gem of a place and more importantly, it was up to the expectations.
The walk around the Lough is lovely and something to do right on the doorstep. I loved the fact that you get your own canoe to explore on the Lough and then you can come back and lie in the hot tub looking up at the stars, it’s lovely that it is small. Just a small number of cabins doted here and there; please don’t change because it is just perfect. We shall look forward to returning and shall bring my mum next time because she would love this too. We are returning home, batteries charged and feeling very relaxing. Thank you Nick, Tazeem, Erica & team.
Pro’s – everything.
Con’s – nothing.
Dawn & Mark (Wigan, Lancs)
This was our first visit to the Tranquil Otter
This was our first visit to the Tranquil Otter and we could not be leaving more satisfied with our stay.
The pictures of the cabin on the internet don’t do it enough justice. We had high hopes and expectations before coming and they were all exceeded!
We had a lovely walk around the lake, followed by a nice canoe trip round it, then relaxed in the hot tub.
WE are already planning dates for our next stay here and really looking forward to it.
Mike & Joanne (Warrington)
Look forward to our next visit
Wow, what a relaxing break, hot tub great, walk around lake was enjoyable, stopped in birdhut, fantastic views.
Worth getting out in canoe, fed ducks, most enjoyable.
Visited Gretna Green, short drive worth a visit, outlet was good too.
Will defo be back in the future and will recommend to all.
Look forward to our next visit.
Gavin & Jane
It’s perfect for a relaxing high quality break from the real world
After our 1st visit here we said we would come back and our 2nd visit was equally amazing!!
The new canoe was great fun and being in the middle of the lake gave you a fantastic view of the whole area. If anyone was doubtful about being able to steer it, don’t worry it’s really easy…
Loved the new bird feeder and was surprised that they still fed when we were in the hot tub.
Can’t fault this place. It’s perfect for a relaxing high quality break from the real world.
Can’t wait to come back.
Lovely thank you.
Karen & Roger Compton (Malmesbury, Wiltshire)
We will definitely be back in the Summer to make good use of the BBQ!
Had an amazing time here and have already recommended some family members to come, we will definitely be back in the Summer to make good use of the BBQ!
We are thinking of investing in a hot tub, couldn’t get enough of it. Taken away some brilliant memories from Arctic Skua, thank you for having us.
See you again soon.
Callum & Louise (Leeds)
We will be back and will recommend it to our friends
We had a fantastic weekend away that was completely stress free. Even the weather didn’t stop us enjoying the hot tub.
We will be back and will recommend it to our friends.

An ideal location for a weekend getaway!!
A great stay!! An ideal location for a weekend getaway!! The hot tub was a joy! Plenty to do for younger couples.
We enjoyed “The Mango Tree” and “Pizza Express”…
Can’t wait to come back again.

Had a fantastic break here to celebrate our marriage!
Had a fantastic break here to celebrate our marriage! So easy to relax here. Log fire and hot tub were great. So much thought and attention to detail has been put in, the guest handbook leaves no questions we may have unanswered: well worth a read!
Loved our walk around the lake, with a quick stop off at the bird watching shed.
The produce from Mulholland’s in the luxury welcome pack was delicious, so glad we chose this when booking.
Looking forward to our next visit!
Sarah & Peter (Brindley Ford, Staffordshire)
What a perfect way to celebrate getting married!
What a perfect way to celebrate getting married! Such a lovely location – tranquil almost. We’ve had a lovely time and the best relation – we’d love to come back and explore the area more whilst enjoying everything the Tranquil Otter has to offer – hot tub, a roaring fireplace, the Lough and the wildlife. We have new friends (the ducks!) so we’ll need to come back to see how they’re getting on.
Ben & Caroline (Winchester, Hampshire)
Pretty to watch and quite outstanding all round
Nick, Tazeem & Team – Many thanks for a lovely stay. Warm and efficient welcome; all amenities and attention to detail; stunning venue; hot tub a firm favourite. Pretty to watch and quite outstanding all round.

What a gorgeous little lodge, a real home from home
What a gorgeous little lodge, a real home from home, so much so that we don’t want to leave! Beautiful surroundings, enjoyed a walk around the lake and a row in the boat. (although I don’t think that Stanley was that taken!) The hot tub was fab – a real luxury.
Lovely welcome tray when we arrived and the lodge has everything you could need. The guest handbook is really useful. Loads to do in the local area and had a lovely meal at the Royal Oak and a takeaway from the Mango Tree.
Would definitely recommend the Tranquil Otter to friends and hope to return soon.
Sarah, Faye & Stanley the dog
Lovely stay. Gorgeous views.
Lovely stay. Gorgeous views. Hot tub great, especially at night under the stars. Nice walk round the lake. Had Sunday lunch at The Royal Oak in West Curthwaite, which was good. Recommend booking though, they were turning people away as full. Lovely and peaceful – we’ll be back.

Loved our long weekend
Loved our long weekend, our two little border collies ‘Little Mo’ and ‘Poodle’ loved it even more. The walks were amazing even with the mud.
Four happy tired people going home. Thanks.
Must make our stay longer next visit as we will definite book again.
Wendy & Jason Hayes (North Wales)

This place is one of the most beautiful places have stayed
We came here for my partner’s 40th. After a 4 hour trip we were so delighted to arrive here at Tranquil Otter.
I have been around the world and this place is one of the most beautiful places have stayed.
It makes your heart sing!
Many thanks we will return.

Fantastic break for a 25th wedding anniversary
Fantastic break for a 25th wedding anniversary. Loved every minute here. Hope to return.

It’s the perfect getaway for the weekend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tranquil Otter. It’s an amazingly cosy cottage with a spectacular log fire. The privacy around the cottage was something which we were looking for and was perfect when we realised how enclosed this cottage was. We don’t have enough words to describe the hot tub – it was truly luxurious and heavenly. The view, facilities and Nick’s hospitality are second to none.
It’s the perfect getaway for the weekend!
Mr & Mrs Sidhu (Manchester)
This exceeds expectations
It's hard to judge by a website whether a place will be as good as advertised. This exceeds expectations! Will miss the view and the daily duck feeds. Not all the pubs serve food every night but the Highland Laddie was great (fresh caught salmon) and had no issue with bringing the dog. John's Plaice is great for fish and chips or for those who don't like fish, the best pie ever served at a chippie. We had a couple of lovely walks on the beach at Bowness on Solway. Know that the area is not known for beaches but there was no body there at all. An all round fabulous 10 days and we will also be back!
Katie, Jon & Rosie (dog)
Love the View!
This has been an amazing week for us. The cottages were very comfortable. Our children loved going otter spotting & feeding the ducks. We were extremely grateful for the hospitality of Tazeem, Nick & the crew, who made our stay all the more enjoyable & stress free. Love the view! Thank you for making our holiday so special.
Anne, Tim, Lucia & Francis Wand, Sydney, Australia
The Most Relaxing Time
We had the most relaxing time & just chilled out walking, hot-tub, sauna & beauty treatments – amazing! Wild life & scenery is grand – we both loved being here and will be back soon. Thank you so much.

The Dunnock was perfect for us
We have had a wonderful stay at the Tranquil Otter and would love to return for another holiday in the future. The Dunnock was perfect for us, a lovely well equipped kitchen and the bed and sofas were extremely comfortable.
We hope you had a lovely Easter weekend.
Matt, Amy and Eva
Thank you again for an amazing holiday
This is our second time here and to our amazement it was better than the 1st... A Truly beautiful place, we saw the owl and woodpecker on our walks and much more... the ducks are still as cheeky as ever and tried to join us in the hot tub.
We will most definitely return for a third relaxing triip. Thank you again for an amazing holiday.
Kirsty & Ross
the cabin, the view. "PERFECT"
On arrival I was quite surprised how close Chiffchaff was to the other cabin, but once inside we were in 'paradise'. It could not have been better, the cabin, the view. "PERFECT". The walk around the lake is wonderful, especially when Leah (the dog) showed us which way to go. The hot tub was fab. We went in the boat everyday, that was such good fun, we barbecued and would recommend the Mango Tree. We did two of the walks in the guide, which were fab. We have just been to lunch at the "The Royal Oak" at Curthwaite, it's a MUST. Food fab, everyone friendly. Casa Romana on Warwick street was great. Really sad to be going home. Enjoy. X

This Place is Addictive
Our fourth visit since October ’10. This place is addictive. Nature is blooming: saw a Kingfisher on the post by the boat & a family of Moorhens are nesting to the left. I wish the ducks would get a room though. We’ll be back & so will you.
Mark & Michelle
We have had an amazing week again
Our second visit to The Tranquil Otter (first visit was our honeymoon last year). We have had an amazing week again, lived up to all our expectations and then surpassed them! We will be back soon though. We stayed in Lodge 5 (now known as Fieldfare) last time and Buzzard was just as lovely - clean, well set up, amazing lake view, hot tub, ducks, swans etc.
This place is very well named! Tranquility at its best - Soul food!
We are very sad to leave this morning. Can't wait to return, thank you for a fantastic week.
Helen & Martin

Thank You for Making Our Weekend Perfect
Words can not describe how perfect the Tranquil Otter is. My partner booked our stay for a relaxing weekend in the busy run up to our wedding in May.
We have loved being here and could stay longer. We love the hot tub, views, Leah the Dog and the cheeky chappie who taps on the window every morning! This place is beautiful a true paradise. Already thinking of when we can come back. Thank you for making our weekend perfect.
Richard & Sarah
We’d Like to Stay Forever!
Why did we only book for 4 nights – we’d like to stay forever! We would never tire of the view and tranquillity. Never felt so relaxed, We’ll be back. Many thanks

This Beautiful Tranquil Special Place
What can we say that hasn’t already been said about this beautiful Tranquil special place from the minute we arrived we felt at home. Here on our honeymoon after a busy wedding and weekend spent with family. The Tranquil Otter was just what we needed so relaxing just sitting back and enjoying the wildlife. The funny little chaffinch is great, such a cheeky little fellow tapping on the window. Leah the dog took us on a lovely walk around the lake showing us which direction to go in so sweet. We’ve had great time and can’t wait to come back with our boys.
The newlywed Johnsons
Tranquil Otter is wonderful
Tranquil Otter is wonderful – we came for a family weekend and had a great time. There is everything you need in the lodge; the hot-tub is amazing (sitting in there looking at the stars) and the setting is beautiful. Thank you for a lovely mini-break.
The Turners & The Holdsworths
Wonderful weekend, it’s been said many times in this book but this place really is heaven. Will be back soon we hope.
Kate & Tim
Lovely, lovely relaxing break yet again
Lovely, lovely relaxing break yet again. Some things never change except maybe the name of the lodge! Our 6th anniversary and as perfect as ever. Never mentioned it before but the ‘Retreat’ spa (few miles down the road) is the perfect luxury treat. Alan has his back and neck massage and manicure. I had a lovely facial and pedicure. You will need to book as there is a discount for Tranquil Otter guests. Wildlife as varied as ever with the water rail making a rare appearance in front of the lodge. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you. xxxx p.s. It will always be Lodge 5 to us!
Linda and Alan
Lovely lodge and beautiful setting

Arrived on the Friday for a week away
Arrived on the Friday for a week away before the boyfriend was deployed away for 5 months. As soon as arriving Danny switched off into relax mode, letting Laura take in all the info about the cabin. From the minute of being here we were blown away by everything. The cabin, scenery, ducks, privacy and the hot-tub.
We enjoyed a lovely early Christmas here and ventured out a few times. But after about 10 minutes of being out Laura was drawn back to the cabin like a magnet. So we were never gone very long.
We enjoyed every minute and hope to come back many years down the line when we’re old and grey. Have a great stay.
Laura and Danny
This was a last minute decision
This was a last minute decision, we just didn’t feel like flying anywhere and wanted somewhere relaxing, beautiful and interesting. Thank you to the chap who recommended The Tranquil Otter. The lodges are perfect – character yet comforts of modern living with a perfect view. Walking round the lake in the snow is like walking into Narnia, without the need of a wardrobe! We ventured out a little but weather prevented some jaunts. However, it’s very easy to spend days at the lodge with the company of the birds and ducks and swans. Sun all week. Just had the most wonderful time. Dog loved it too. Nick and Tazeem and staff are very welcoming and friendly! As is Leah! Thanks and see you again.
Lisa, Allison and Maddie (Chepstow, Monmouthshire)
This is our first visit
This is our first visit to The Tranquil Otter and certainly won’t be our last. Had a fantastic, chilled out and relaxing weekend. Hot-tub with glass/bottle of champagne staring up at the stars at night, so romantic! Also enjoyed a massage/facial by Vanessa. An absolute must. Hope to see you soon.
Chris & Emma
such a peaceful and relaxing place to stay
Our first visit, we are coming again. Fantastic lodge; great views and such a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. We brought our dog and have enjoyed lots of walks and trips out. The location of the lodge is a good base to explore from. Thanks to the team for their attention to detail and helpful attitude.
Elaine & Tim
We even looked out one day
We even looked out one day and the woodpecker was at the tree just outside! The walk around the lake is lovely and rowing out into the middle is a must as well. Thanks again and we hope to see you again.
Hi Tazeem - The lodge was luxurious
Hi Tazeem - The lodge was luxurious beyond our expectations, and we had a great time with the hot tub and the boat especially. I did finally see an otter ... what a privilege ...and our own little troupe of adolescent ducklings...
Thank you for a wonderful week's break
Thank you for a wonderful week's break in Gadwall at the Tranquil Otter. We will miss the ducks bullying us to feed them and the swans hissing at us for getting too close.
Rob & Catrina
Hi there, Thought I'd send a quick email
Hi there, Thought I'd send a quick email to say thanks for the great stay. I'm a keen photographer, and found the location spot on! Wish I got a better quality of the Otter though.
We had a great time and certainly enjoyed
We had a great time and certainly enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. We certainly feel refreshed and hope to return again in the future. We promised to send some photos of the otters ... they seem to be a bit camera shy!!
We had a marvelous time
We had a marvellous time during our stay at the Tranquil Otter ... the lodges are extremely comfortable and clean and could not be in a more idyllic location ... we found ourselves more inclined to just relax in the lodge watching the wildlife on the lake.

Another Brilliant Relaxing Time
Another brilliant time at The Tranquil Ottter. Seen lots of birdlife nesting, woodpeckers etc. Wildlife seen fox, red squirrel. Weather a bit iffy, but didn't spoil our break. Thanks again for a lovely time. You really deserve the Gold Award.

Another fantastic totally relaxing week.

It all started with a search on Google: “Wheelchair accessible holidays”
It all started with a search on Google: “Wheelchair accessible holidays” – the Tranquil Otter was head and shoulders above them all. Excellent website and everything here matched the description – but being here was a step further.
Thanks to you both for a wonderful stay…and Nick for your valiant efforts in the wheelyboat! I reckon with concerted efforts, the Lough would be a wonderful trout Lough – but I realise that funds are the main stumbling block.
Despite the mud – we all enjoyed what walks we could tackle although Millie and Poppy (having low undercarriages – Dachs) were muddy muckers!
Will recommend to others as I would places to eat: The Gilded Lily and Bijou Brasserie – both in Carlisle (ten mins).
Best of luck with the Tranquil Otter’s future…
Andrew & Sally Jeffrey, Millie and Poppy the dogs (Sholtley Bridge, County Durham)
PS Could do with lower mirror height in bathroom and put a grab rail on wall beside loo and shower!
Egret an inspiration
We had a lovely time and the lodge has given me inspiration for my new room which used to be a garage (they were doing all the dusty bits when we were with you) and we have had a lovely wooden floor put down. Anyway S has not been well recently and I doubt we will be able to return any time soon, although I would love to come. Who knows what will happen in the next 12 months. Anyway thanks again, you have a fabulous place.
Simon & Diane
Had such a lovely relaxing holiday
Had such a lovely relaxing holiday. The hot-tub and sauna were such a treat. The walk round the lake was lovely and easy with Grace's wheelchair. We followed your recommendation to Hadrian’s Wall but the snow was too bad to continue! Would love to return in the summer time. The lodge was everything and more than we expected. Thank you.
Katrina, Steve, Grace and Isabella
It has been wonderful, so quiet and peaceful
We have just enjoyed 5 days here in the Egret. I have to say it has been wonderful, so quiet and peaceful. The views are brilliant and I would love to stay here forever.
The facilities are first class and I loved the sauna hot tub and walks around the Lough. We visited the mobility car and found this a great way to get Simon around the Lough. He really enjoyed the experience. The aim of this break was to get away from it all, relax and de stress. It has certainly achieved its goal.
Many thanks to Nick and Tazeem for allowing all the equipment to be delivered. These few days away have had a big impact and we would love to come back soon.
Thank you very much.
Diane, Simon, Nick and Jessie the dog
I wanted to drop you a line
I wanted to drop you a line to say that we had a great time at the Tranquil Otter. I particularly wanted to mention that the wheelchair facilities in the lodge were excellent - the best I have encountered. It makes a refreshing change that someone has taken trouble to accommodate all needs. We hope to return. Thanks.
We will be back!
This is our second visit, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves yet again. Great for wheelchair access.
The swans & ducks are delightful, great walks. Everything in the cabin is there for you.
The England Family
Loved the facilities especially the hot tub and sauna
Second stay for us but first for my sister and her husband and our first in Egret lodge. Loved the facilities especially the hot tub and sauna.
Thoroughly recommend the Greyhound Inn for good honest pub grub at Burgh by Sands. Really enjoyed wildlife and managed to hand feed swans and Leah was a consistent visitor.
Maryport is interesting and the Captain Nelson Tavern again offers good pub grub.
Only disappoint was that struggled to find somewhere decent to eat in Carlisle on a Bank Holiday Monday (chain food only). Enjoyed a fantastic relaxing week and definitely plan to return again.
Kev & Denise (Southhampton), Jane & Paul (Birmingham)
PS – Can get a wheelchair user in the hot tub with a gantry hoist and some ingenuity!!
A wonderful place to stay
A wonderful place to stay, accommodation excellent standard & very ‘tranquil’. Especially enjoyed using the motor scooter to walk with the boys & our dog Freddy around the lake. I’m sure we will be back again.
The Morgan family (Chester)
Perfect break away
We came here for my 30th birthday and we have had an amazing time, the log cabin was exactly what we wanted for our break away.
And being in the wheelchair was made easier by all the adaptations in the cabin. We even went in the boat on the lake, it was good fun.
We would definitely come back here. Champagne in the hot tub topped it off – perfect break away.
Nia & Gaff (North Wales)
We will be back!
This has been our first visit to the Tranquil Otter and we’ve had a great time. The lodge & location are fantastic. Gnocchi the dog was mesmerised by Dave and the web-footed posse. We will be back! Many thanks.
Thanks for a Fab Birthday Weekend
My lovelies Born Day.
Greeted by the 3 Amigos (Ducks) who stayed all weekend chilling with us. Big Dave knocked on the door & hung around for a while. Leah visited regularly & sat in the boat relaxing with us too.
The walks around the lake & the lovely bird hide were magical. Sunday was gorgeous wife’s Born Day. Barbecue then picnic moored out on the lake, bobbing about – watching buzzards above & just the sounds of birds to be heard.
Hot tub – so relaxing & moresome.
Loved it all – first time for ages head wasn’t busy joy. Thanks for a fab birthday weekend.
Mags & Mow
Thanks for a Wonderful Relaxing Break
Our first visit to the Tranquil Otter – a surprise trip by my husband for my ‘40th’ & what a wonderful way to spend my birthday week! Weather started off with high winds & rain but has gradually improved & now sitting here is sunshine listening to the birdsong. Have had a fabulous week – not doing a great lot apart from eating well, drinking, lovely walks around the Lough, cosying up in front of the fire & of course the hot tub!
Made friends with the ducks & swans & each tried to get out of the rowing boat although wind blew us back in quicker than we could row at!
Thanks for a wonderful relaxing break in this retreat away from it all.
Lorraine, Byron & Bobby the Dog
Yet another fantastic stay at the Tranquil Otter
Yet another fantastic stay at Tranquil Otter.
Drier, brighter weather this stay so managed to get out and about, including the walk around the Lough, and a row around the Lough.
Sat in the hot tub last night; a calm clear evening with nothing to break the quiet but birds in the trees, cows in neighbouring fields and the odd "quack". Thought to myself "what could be better than this" - could not think of anything! Try it - you'll see what I mean!
We'd love to come back again before too long.
Ray, Bev & Jess (the cocky spaniel)
The Lodge Is Fantastic
This is our first visit to the Tranquil Otter, upon arrival we were given a friendly greeting, shown around the lodge and made to feel very welcome. We were also impressed by the personal touches, such as the tasty cupcakes!
The lodge is fantastic, very well kept and maintained with all the mod cons and stylish, contemporary fittings required. The surrounding environment is very peaceful and relaxing, it’s like having your very own personal nature reserve at your back door.
One of the highlights that we found was the ‘cars of the stars motor museum’ which if you’re a film/tv buff you will find quite rewarding. If you’re looking to go out for a pub lunch, we would recommend the food at the ‘Royal Oak Inn,’ Curthwaite.
Overall, a delightful place to visit, we really enjoyed our stay and will sorely miss the hot-tub! Thanks for a great weekend.
Jayne & Tim

You have to be Victor Meldrew to not enjoy your stay
After a lovely week we have to leave. The surroundings and the tranquility will be missed. One warning, if you feed the ducks once, they will be back every day at the same time with a raiding party - so you have been warned.
The lakeside walk is wonderful. The hot tub and sauna enhance the experience.
You will have to be Victor Meldrew to not enjoy your stay!!!

A Truly Relaxing Break
Our first stay here – and hopefully not our last! Delightful rural retreat – everything catered for. A truly relaxing break – the perfect escape. We saw lots of wildlife, including deer and kingfishers, but missed the elusive red squirrels! The swans & ducks kept us well entertained!
The lodge was cosy and well equipped & the hot tub was great. Thank you for giving us such a warm welcome – first class service, we look forward to our next visit…
Fantastic time had by all
Fantastic time had by all in wonderful surroundings. Lucky the weather held out ok. Excellent site, as it says on the tin, Tranquil. Hope to be back soon.
